Carterville
‘Come Live With Us’
If Not We Will Annex You In!

With more news from the growing town of Carterville. Seems that a proposal has passed the House by a 63-42 vote to annex in yet more property on the outskirts of Carterville. This time it is aimed at Carbondale and Mayor Brad Cole. This has got to stop! Here we are ‘suffering’ within the ‘inner city’ and Mr. Mausey wants yet more property to control. Carterville says they don’t have any extra money in the fund, so how are we supposed to maintain more roads and more property if we can’t even sustain what we have.

"The people that are affected by this want to be in the city of Carterville," said state Rep, John Bradley, D-Marion. "It's strictly voluntary."

Yes Mr. Bradley, the people that ARE affected by this is Carterville! We are again going to have to sacrifice our town! What purpose does this fill? Why when the management in this city can’t maintain what they have would they want more? I’ll tell you why! GREED! Mr. Bradley states it is strictly voluntary. Who volunteered? Mausey and his barber shop quartet? I didn’t volunteer! Did you volunteer?

The land that is being annexed in to Carterville is a strip of land along Illinois 13 separated by the Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge and is within the path of Carbondale’s plan for long-term growth. Is this to stop Carbondale from moving this way? Is it a land grab? Why not just do it like the old days Mr. Mausey, run out find the land you want, and drive a stake in it with your name on it. This is a blatant stab at Mr. Brad Cole and The City of Carbondale.

Carbondale is prospering and growing both by size and economy. Mr. Cole has done an exceptional job there as Mayor and Mr. Mausey is wanting to stop them from growing because he sees progress in Carbondale and none here. The answer is not to sneak up and take land from another towns, because of poor decisions in management. This is another poor decision if you ask me. "This gives local people the ability to do something that is beneficial to their businesses, their community and their families," Bradley said.

BULL! What are the local people going to do with it? Build another million-dollar subdivision? Throw up another $10,000 flag? “Beneficial to their businesses.” What are you planning to do, move all of the business out to Illinois 13? In the past 3 years, we have lost 2 parts stores in town, and the Dollar General Store. They both moved out to Illinois 13. This left a huge hole in this town. Dollar General was in downtown Carterville within walking distance of the elderly so it was convenient for them to get their necessities. Now the elderly either have to do without, or find someone to give him or her a ride. If they are going to get into a car, why not just go to Wal-Mart? It’s about the same distance.

"I think the passage is a plus, but there are some things we still have to look at," Mausey said. "I respect Mr. Cole, and I hope we will be able to work through this without conflict or hard feelings."

MORE BULL! The passage is a plus for whom? You? You should have looked at the things before you started this. Now it is too late! If it goes through, we are going to have to give police protection, fire protection, ambulance service, water service, maintain the streets, (of course you maintain them like the streets in Carterville now, it won’t cost you a dime! Because you don’t maintain them!) Are we going to cross two bridges to take one of our two street sweepers out there, or are you just going to buy a third?

You sat there in a City Council Meeting and denied Mr. Flora $500 for the lawnmower races and told him that "the fire fighters are having to have boot brigades at the stop signs to buy fireworks for The Fourth of July fireworks display because the city simply doesn't have enough funds". Does this mean we are going to have to hire more firemen, policemen, city employees or pay overtime for the ones we have to take care of the new property?

Mr. Mausey you say you ‘respect Mr. Cole?’ How?

You ‘hope you will be able to work through this without conflict or hard feeling?’ This sounds to me like you are worried that maybe Mr. Cole would hold it against you. Do you blame him? Did you do something wrong? What if Mr. Cole did that to us, just annex in John A Logan? Would you have hard feelings? Sound like you knew you were doing something wrong and now you are worried about the repercussion from those you took the land from. We wouldn’t have to worry about Mr. Cole doing this because he is more responsible and would think it out before doing such a thing.

Mr. Mausey is so focused on ‘Beautifying Downtown Carterville’ to bring businesses to the town, now he is wanting them to move out to Illinois 13. If you would come to downtown Carterville, you would see the problem we have. PARKING! Each business downtown only has 2 parking spots that are on the main drag. You are not allowed to park in the ally next to the library because of the LIBRARY ONLY signs up. There is no parking downtown. Of course this would require to actually maintain the streets.

Mr. Mausey, I have an idea, since you are wanting to build a new library on the old Burr mine site, why not just move it out to the new annexed in area and give the old library back to the teens that you took it from! Think about it. The new library would have a better chance of NOT falling into a sinkhole out on Illinois 13 than where you were wanting to build it.

Readers, I need your support. The bill is headed to the Governor’s desk. I need all of my readers to please write the Governor telling him not to allow this.
